Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino is the host for the on-going 48th Annual WSOP and for what seems to be the most exciting time for what seems to be the most exciting time for poker enthusiasts, all is not happy and fun. Reportedly two guests at the Rio hotel were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. This has left the poker players worried.
Though the bacteria grows in fresh water sources, like lakes and streams, but it is worrisome when the bacteria starts to grow in man-made water systems like the plumbing system, faucets, showers, water fountain etc.
This incident came up in two separate incidents in separate months, April and May which were reported by the hotel guests. The victims showed symptoms similar to pneumonia that included fever, shortness of breath, coughing and muscle aches. Legionnaires’ disease is a respiratory illness which is contracted by inhaling water droplets containing Legionella bacteria while taking a hot bath or shower.
On learning the two incidents separately, Rio Hotel got the water tested and showed positive results for the presence of bacteria. Due to this, Rio Hotel had to take special measures to check the spread of the disease further.
One specific tower of the hotel seems to be the cause of concern. The guests have been relocated to the other, less troubled areas of the hotel. Previous guests of the hotel are also being investigated for the possibility of the disease.
